ILS 8th graders visit Chinese art exhibition

ILS 8th graders from groups 8M2 and 8M3 who are learning the Chinese language visited the Primorye State Picture Gallery to view an exhibition by Chinese artist Mao Guanhuei called “Perception of China: Xiangxi in ink”.

“The exhibition is part of the international art project Russian-Chinese Cooperation in the Visual Arts,” explains Anna Belonogova, who teaches Chinese language at ILS and is homeroom teacher for 8thgrade group 8M2. “Learning about Chinese art allows our students to deepen their knowledge of the culture. You can’t really master a foreign language without knowing the traditions, including the art, of the people who speak it.”

“ILS students often visit museums, art galleries, parks and even the Far Eastern Regional Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences,” notes ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “We believe these extracurricular activities are an important part of the educational process.”
