Elections to the ILS Student Council were held on October 10, with students indicating their preferences for candidates for the offices of President, Head of Ecology, Head of Personal Development, Head of Media, and Head of Civil Activity. Each candidate gave a presentation to the student body on his or her election platform.
All three of the candidates who ran unopposed - 10th graders Ksenia Didik (Media), Arina Ostrovskaya (Ecology) and Ksenia Kuzmenko (Civil Activity) - received more than the 30% minimum and were elected to the council.
The most intriguing contest was for council president between 10th graders Anfisa Bogdanenko and Yaroslav Paramonov, with Anfisa edging out Yaroslav by the narrowest of margins: 115 votes to 114.
All the election results are final and official.
"This was the first time that our students participated in the serious matter of Student Council elections," notes ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. "It is impossible to build a civil society without responsible participation by each member of that society, beginning with school and continuing with city and country. During the elections, each student made his or her personal choices, leading to the formation of a Student Council capable of carrying out its mission in an effective and responsible manner. I wish each member of our council success in their new positions and active assistance from their supporters."
