Jazz can again be heard in the halls of ILS, this time in preparation for the 5th International Children’s Jazz Festival-Competition Pacific Fusion, an annul event, which this year will include young musicians from Russia, South Korea, China and Japan.
“This year the selection process for potential performers will be more strict,” explains ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “The competition will be held in two stages. In the first stage, participants’ applications will include a video of their proposed performance. From among these applicants, the judges’ panel – led by Pacific Symphony Orchestra conductor and musical director Anatoly Smirnov – will choose the participants for the second stage.”
Serving on the judges’ panel along with chairman Anatoly Smirnov are Nadezhda Tkachenko, who is concertmaster for the bassoon section of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, a member of the MGU chamber orchestra, and a teacher of bassoon and saxophone at two Vladivostok music schools; and Aleksandr Oleinik , who teaches at the Primorye Regional College of Arts and is leader of a local big band.
Applications for the 5th International Children’s Jazz Festival-Competition Pacific Fusion will be taken until March 14. Application forms and video recordings should be sent to email@example.com.
