ILS 10th graders are guests on Mediametrics Vladivostok radio show

ILS 10th graders (section 10M) Anfisa Bogdanenko and Timur Teregulov, who are also members of the school's Student Council, were guests on the Mediametrics Vladivostok radio show “The Russian Pacific is our home”. The topic of the broadcast was “Through thorns to the stars: why do we need a good education?”

“It would seem that we all understand why everyone needs a good education. Before enrolling their children in school, parents try to find the best option for their children,” notes Tatyana Vshivkova, the program host, who teaches at ILS, is a senior researcher at the Freshwater Hydrobiology Laboratory of the Biology and Soil Institute of the Far Eastern Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and serves as head of the International Center for Environmental Monitoring. “People believe that a good education opens the door to a better life, helps you find a good job, brings prosperity, and gives you the opportunity to realize your dreams. Education also gives you self-confidence and becomes the foundation upon which your life is built.”

During the 45-minute broadcast, our students spoke with the host about Primorsky Region, about the particulars of studying at ILS and about education in general, and also discussed science and research.

Tatyana Vshivkova asked: “Do you think that the sort of events and activities held at ILS during Science Days should be held at other schools as well?”

“Definitely,” said Anfisa. “Scientists and specialists in various fields are invited to participate in our Science Days, which helps students overcome any stereotypes or misunderstandings they may have about how researchers work.”

The host then asked Timur: “Who or what do you think influence our choice of future profession?”

Timur: “I can’t name anyone in particular, but I have certainly been influenced by those of my classmates who are interested in programming and computer technology. Thanks to them, I began to look into these areas, reading specialized literature as I study.”

“Providing our students with high-quality education is one of our school’s most important tasks,” explains ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “We try to give our students as much essential knowledge as possible, knowledge that will benefit them in the future. We invite experts in different fields to our school on a regular basis; hold trainings, seminars, and international exchanges; and also send our students on various educational excursions.”
