ILS 5th grader Matvei Belyaev took 1st place in the Open Championship of Primorsky Region in the giant slalom event in the town of Arseniev for students born in 2007-2008.
Despite his tender age (11) Matvei already has several victories under his belt in city, regional and Russian Far Eastern competitions.
"I started downhill skiing when I was four years old and have participated in competitions since I was six," Matvei explains. "I like speed and adrenalin. This spring I'll be going to Sakhalin to compete for a top place in the Russian Far Eastern championship and then I'll be heading for the All-Russian competition in Baikalsk."
"We congratulate Matvei on his success and wish him more victories in the future," says ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. "We believe that participation in sport has a positive effect on students, developing their spirit and teaching them discipline."
