ILS students perform well at Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk downhill skiing competition

ILS students Aleksandr Polyakov (section 6M1), Nazar Peshko and Matvei Belyaev (section 5M1), and 3rd grader Miron Peshko took part in the All-Russian downhill skiing competition “Utro rodiny” (Morning of the motherland) in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in the 10-11 and 12-13 age categories.

The competition was held at the “Gorny vozdukh” (Mountain air) sport and tourism complex and brought together more than 100 top athletes from five Far Eastern regions: Sakhalin, Kamchatka, Magadan, Khabarovsk and Primorye.

Aleksandr Polyakov took second place in the slalom, while Nazar and Miron Peshko finished in the top ten for the Russian Far East.

Several other ILS students: Dmitry Polyakov (section 9M3), Sonya Selivonchik (9M1) and Anastasia Peshko (8M1) are training at Mt Sobolinaya in Baikalsk (Irkutsk Region) in preparation for competitions in Baikalsk scheduled for April 1-6 for athletes from Siberia and the Russian Far East.

“We congratulate our students,” says ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “They are competing in a very demanding type of sport, but this teaches discipline and helps young athletes learn to make decisions independently in order to reach their goals.”
