The 5th International Children’s Jazz Festival-Competition Pacific Fusion opened at ILS on April 23, with 21 musical groups performing numbers by well-known jazz musicians and composers. Vocalists presented songs by James Brown, Irina Otieva, George Gershwin, Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein, while instrumentalists demonstrated the freedom and lightness of jazz.
“We are glad to once again present the International Children’s Jazz Festival-Competition Pacific Fusion,” says festival director Olga Shevchenko, the Principal of ILS. “This is our fifth Pacific Fusion, bringing together on our stage young musicians who love jazz. We are very pleased for all the winners and share the disappointment of those who did not prevail. This year seven groups from ILS performed and I am happy to report that Olga Filimonova of section 8M1 took first place in the category “Vocal – middle group”, and that our school chorus finished second in the “Orchestra. Chorus” category of younger group B.”
This year at the 5th International Children’s Jazz Festival-Competition Pacific Fusion the rules were more demanding, with contestants competing in two rounds: for the first round, contenders sent in video recordings of their music acts, while the second round was on the stage at ILS, with our panel of judges presiding.
