ILS 6th graders from section 6M2 participated in an excursion called “Boats from the depths of the ages” at the Arseniev State Museum of Primorsky Region. This unusual lesson was organized form them by ILS history teacher Aleksey Pakhomushkin.
“Where better to study the ethnography of Primorsky Region than at a museum?” asks Aleksey Pakhomushkin. “Here, our students can learn which peoples lived in Primorye and see objects from their households. Lessons like these supplement traditional textbook study of the subject.”
During their excursion, the 6th graders learned about ancient boat-building technology and discovered what kinds of materials were used by our ancestors to make various objects. They also learned about the beliefs and customs of indigenous peoples of Primorye.
“Excursions teach and develop,” notes ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “At museums, students acquire additional knowledge, develop meta-subject skills, and expand their intellectual horizons.”
