ILS students learning Japanese celebrate eastern-calendar New Year

ILS 5th graders Rodion Kokhan, Arina Selekh and Maria Milova (section 5M3) and 6th grader Leonid Dronov (6M1) took part in a concert dedicated to New Year’s Day (eastern calendar).

“For the thematic concert, the students prepared three haiku and the song Happy New Year,” explains ILS Japanese language teacher Kristina Nazhimova. “We spent two weeks preparing for the event, after which the students performed for the audience, which included representatives of the Japanese Consulate General, their knowledge of the Japanese language.”

“Our students learning foreign languages are often invited to participate in thematic holidays and other events,” notes ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “This year we have about 50 students learning Japanese, and our school also offers Chinese, Korean, French and German. Our students choose a second foreign language beginning with the fifth grade.”
