ILS 8th graders learn about organisms living inside other organisms

“Parasites around us” was the topic of the lecture that Yulia Tatonova, Ph.D in Biology from the Russian Academy of Sciences, gave to 8th graders at our school during Science Week.

The students learned about various types of parasites, why they are dangerous, and why you should not kiss domestic dogs and cats. Students also examined test-tube preparations and watched a video clip about parasites living in the throat of an infected person.

“Although it’s a little unpleasant to see, it’s very useful knowledge,” says Denis Predit, a student in section 8M1. “Now I will wash my hands twice as often, and I will be more careful when I cook.”

“The world of biodiversity is rich and multifaceted,” says ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “That is why our students should learn as much as possible about it, and also why we invite experts in various fields to teach them.”
