2019-2020 ILS Student Council president Sonya Selivonchik presented her report on the Council’s work in the previous school year.
“Being Student Council president is a great honor,” says Sonya. “I think the Rating Committee, consisting of Anastasia Peshko (9M1), Yekaterina Matlina (10M), Mikhail Zelensky (10T), Maria Nedbailova (10M), Aleksandra Klimochkina (10M) and Asya Alekseyeva (7M1) did an excellent job. Thanks to their efforts, our students received objective evaluations of their extracurricular activities, with the ratings serving as a good stimulus for participation in sport competitions and school events, as well as scientific and volunteer activities. I would also like to mention the “English Language Teacher” project, led by Leya Shemetova of section 9M1. Our students taught English to children at Vladivostok Orphanage No.2, where many of the kids didn’t know a word of English until they had tutoring from ILS students, whose command of the language is near native.”
In the third quarter, ILS students took part in the “Good spring” activity, making 21 bird and squirrel feeders that were set up at the Kometa winter sport complex.
The Council’s work also included uniting students from various classes in the Expanded School Council, which met once a month. Thanks to the Expanded Council’s efforts, every child can receive information about planned school events from his or her class representative. Class representatives also offered suggestions about ways to improve school life. The Council did all it could to implement the students’ good ideas.
“The Student Council’s work confirms that our high school students are mature, responsible people,” notes ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “The Council members understand clearly how important their work is and try to ensure that each proposed project works to the benefit of others. Working on the Council also helps them develop their Soft Skills – the ability to communicate, work in teams, analyze events and motivate various activities. We hope that this year’s Council will be just as effective and creative.”
The report on the ILS Student Council’s work is posted on information boards on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th floors of the school.
