This year’s pandemic has compelled us to be even more careful than usual about our health, so our students’ participation in the All-Russian health lesson made perfect sense.
During the lesson, the participants discussed issues such as in what places wearing a mask is obligatory; how to wash your hands properly after visiting public places and why it is now, in fact, unwise to visit public places; and why it is essential to stay at home if you have a temperature and symptoms of illness.
“The children greatly enjoyed their discussion,” reports 4th grade teacher Yelena Anipko. “They were surprised to learn that freshly squeezed juices are not always good for your health and that evening sport activities do not make it difficult to sleep well.”
“At the lesson we practiced the proper way to wash your hands,” Maria Latysh explains. “We found out why you shouldn’t skip lunch and that it is very good to be healthy!”
“This lesson was suggested to us by the Primorye Division of the Russian School Children’s Movement, and since our school is a forum for the movement, we were pleased to participate,” notes ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “Holding the lesson in game form was quite effective, especially for children from grades 1-4. The informal setting gave students a comfortable opportunity to think about how to protect their health, as well as about useful and harmful foods. I am certain that the lesson was very useful for everyone.”
