Mental arithmetic: a new subject for 4th, 5th and 6th graders

Fifth graders in section 5M1 went to work from the moment the class began. Their mental warm-up started with a fast-moving numbers dictation exercise, where, without writing anything in their notebooks, they had to quickly decide "more", "less" or "equal".  After about five minutes, their work was checked. Almost all the children handled the task brilliantly.

"Mental arithmetic is a unique way to develop a child's intellectual and creative capabilities, based on the technique of doing calculations in your head," explains teacher Anton Glupak. "It develops the skill of calculating quickly without pencil or pen, as well as photographic memory. Mental calculations allow us to significantly improve our ability to concentrate, while also enhancing our initiative and creative capabilities."
