Do you know the history of the Primorye Regional Philharmonic? Our 4th, 5th and 6th graders do, after learning interesting facts about the creation of one of Vladivostok's main concert halls from the "Madame Galetskaya" program, under the guidance of international prize winning cellist Natalya Krivitskaya.

During their visit, our students learned that the Philharmonic building was originally made of wood, but that after a fire, it was rebuilt with stone and situated next to one of the best hotels of that time, the Golden Horn. Our boys and girls also spent time backstage and imitated the way that the musicians in the orchestra come out and array themselves around the stage before a performance. 

The biggest surprise of the day was a concert by musicians from the Philharmonic orchestra, with prize-winning Russian soprano Anastasia Tsyganova performing romances and songs. 

"We consider it our task to provide our students with education in the broadest sense of the word," explains ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. "Learning about the classical repertoire, as well as the history of a leading Vladivostok concert hall and how to behave there is a very important part of our students' development."
