ILS students receive DELF certificates for knowledge of French

Four 10th grade students – Gleb Kaminsky, Tatyana Eroshova, Milana Novruzova and Petr Troshchenko – received DELF A1 certificates. They began studying French in 7th grade, and two years later (in the summer of 2017) passed the exam to receive the certificate for Level 1 knowledge of the language.

“The purpose of DEFL is to confirm a person’s fundamental communication skills,” explains ILS French language teacher Maria Zhdanova. “DELF is important for determining a person’s skill at relaxed conversation with native French speakers on a range of topics, and also for demonstrating one's ability to understand newspaper and magazine articles and literary works.”

DELF is an official state test, launched by the French Ministry of Education in 1985. The test consists of four parts, covering various aspects of language, including speaking and oral analysis of texts in four types of tasks.

“It is good that our students understand the opportunities that knowing languages gives them, “says ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “I believe our students have a good range of second foreign languages to choose from: Chinese, Korean, Japanese, German and French. All our students strive to improve their knowledge, take certificate-level exams, and participate in language competitions.”
