How are scientific discoveries made? Is science boring or interesting? What does it take to be erudite or to win a brain ring?

All through this week, students from grades 4-11 have been participating in experiments, attending lectures, and going on excursions to science centers of various types.

Our 10^th grade sections participated in a brain ring, working hard to refresh their knowledge and answer questions about history, math and literature.

ILS 9^th graders defended their research projects in the areas of history, biology, ecology, literature, economics and psychology.

Scientists from TINRO gave a series of lectures for 9^th graders on the biodiversity of the Far Eastern fishing basin, while their counterparts from the Far Eastern Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences talked with students about the ecological problems faced by Golden Horn Bay.

“This week we have tried to expose our students to the broadest possible range of modern scientific developments and knowledge in areas from cryptocurrency to battles of the mind,” explains ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “Every year new topics are added to Science Week, highly accomplished scientists and scholars come to the school to take part, and our students join in all the discussions with great enthusiasm. As everyone knows, you can’t have too much knowledge, and Science Week helps our students to significantly expand and deepen the range of what they know.”
