ILS students learn about Japanese animation

ILS Japanese language teacher Olga Podsvirova and her students recently had a fascinating encounter with Japanese animation.

The students watched the cartoon "Mary and the Witch's Flower" by director Hiromasa Yonebayashi, who is a student of Oscar-winning animator Hayao Miyazaki.

"Learning about Japanese animation is part of the process of learning the Janapese language," Olga Podsvirova exlpains. "Cartoons in Japan are quite different from those in Russia of Europe. Animation allows us to follow a country's cultural features, thanks to the details, accents and flowers. All of this help with immersion into the language being studied."
