The 5th Annual International Children's Jazz Festival-Competition is scheduled for April 23-24 and will be opened by the well-known jazz quartet FireFox.
Participants in the 14th International Jazz Festival, FireFox performs classic jazz compositions and virtuoso improvisations, also offering fresh readings of jazz music favorites. The FireFox members are: Olga Sergienko - contrabass; Vyacheslav Vedernikov - piano; Aleksei Alekhnovich - percussion; and Svetlana Knyazeva - vocals.
In 2018, the group performed in concert with jazz legend Ray Brown Junior. Additionally, Vyacheslav Vedernikov accompanied famous jazz performer Ginetta, leader of the group Ginetta's Vendetta.
"We are glad to be sharing our knowledge with young jazz performers because we love jazz and believe we understand it," says Olga Sergienko. "Our concert performances with stars have given us strong professional experience."
Most of the FireFox members also work as professional music teachers: Aleksei Alekhnovich teaches at the Primorye Regional College of Arts and the Russian Far Eastern Arts Institute; Olga Sergienko teaches at the Primorye Regional College of Arts and International Linguistic School; and Vyacheslav Vedernikov teaches at International Linguistic School. Svetlana Knyazeva, who possesses a beautiful, richly timbred voice, has won international and All-Russian competitions.
"We are pleased that FireFox will be holding master classes for our guests," notes ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko, who also serves as director of the 5th International Children's Jazz Festival-Competition. "The master classes will take place on the morning of April 24 in our school's music classrooms. Our Pacific Fusion gets better every year, giving young performers increasingly extensive opportunities."
