Students in ILS elementary grades showed off their declamatory talents at the recent “Poetry Reading” competition.
The children recited works by the poets Angia Barto, Emma Mashkovskaya, Boris Zakhoder, Robert Rozhdestvensky and others. Each student tried to express the meaning of his or her poem through intonation and masterful stage performance.
“Reciting poems is very useful for young pupils,” says ILS elementary school teacher Olga Yakovleva. “It helps develop their phonetic comprehension, as they divide sounds into syllables. In addition, it helps them to improve their oral expression and increase their vocabulary.”
The results of the competition were as follows:
0-2 grades
1st place – Bastian Derks
2nd place – Kim Henso
3rd place – Lee Jun Khva
2-4 grades
1st place – Zakhar Topalov
2nd place – Maria Kurinko
3rd place – Maria Kondratieva[C1] and Sofia Lugovaya
Prizes for audience favorites:
0-2 grades – Fujinaga Ryota
2-4 grades – Yaroslav Makarov
“We congratulate all the prize winners and ask the other children who participated not to be disappointed,” says ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “This was a good experience for all the contestants, as it also expands the children’s cultural horizons and helps with memory training.”
