For the 21st International Educational Forum in Morioka the organizers chose three topics from the UN’s 2015 list of goals for sustainable development: child poverty, women’s social advancement, and aging society. Our school was asked to research and give a presentation on the topic “Quality of life among the elderly.”
“Our topic was not an easy one,” notes 11th grader Timur Teregulov (section 11M). “My team included students from New Zealand, China, Canada, Malaysia and Singapore. Together we conducted our analysis and prepared our presentation. I served as the team presenter, and overall, I believe it went quite well.”
“The experience of participating in events of this kind expands our understanding of how people in different countries live,” explains 10th grader Eva Titkova (section 10B). “We lived with Japanese families, and they received us so warmly that we felt like they were our family too.”
“I was very moved by our visit to a home for the elderly,” says 10th grader Kirill Trudov (section 10A). “The girls in our group performed a concert number called ‘Quadrille’ for the residents, touching everyone’s hearts.”
“Through our song, Eva and I wanted to show the depth and tenderness of the Russian soul,” explained 10th grader Masha Nedbailova (section 10M). “Each country prepared a concert number for the forum, and I am certain that everyone will remember our song and our performance.”
“Trips to the International Educational Forum have become a tradition at our school,” notes ILS Principal Olga Shevchenko. “The children receive tremendous benefit from working in international teams and learn how to engage with people they do not know. This is also a valuable experience for teachers, allowing them to collect new ideas for use in their teaching at home. Our school will most certainly incorporate educational concepts formulated by the international teachers’ team at CHUO High School.”
