Science week continues at ILS: learning how to make cartoons

ILS international students in grades 5 and 7, accompanied by biology teacher Sofia Okhotina and mathematics teacher Anna Lushpei, went to the Museum of the History of the Far East during Science Week, where they learned how to create cartoons. The theme of the workshop was “Multigraphy. Oriental New Year.”

Museum employee Alena told the children about the principles of creating an animated film and showed how to properly draw pictures for the animated film.

“We decided to make a cartoon about a festive procession with a dragon,” says 7th grader U-Son Won, “In Korea, the dragon is kind and in ancient times was a symbol of the Korean emperor.”

During the work on the animated film, Arkhip Nikolaev worked as a cameraman, and his classmates from Korea, Kim Suho, Lee Seung Min, Lee Ji Hyeok, drew the dragon. Seventh grade students Woo Seungwon, Ham Yunha, and Chin Jiwoo, also participated, painting people, tangerines and fireworks - symbols of the New Year in Korea.

"While working on the cartoon, we came up with the name 'Big Holiday Dragon," says Kim Suho, of section 5M2. “Drawing cartoons is very interesting.”

“Our goal for Science Week program was to enable every student to learn something new,” explains Marina Artemenko, ILS Deputy Principal for Science and Scholarship. “More than 50 students from other countries are studying in our school. They are learning the Russian language, as well as English, with special events for both languages.”
